I’m going to let you in on a little secret – I really like the traffic girls of Pyongyang.
When we asked our North Korean guides if the traffic girls are aware of their world wide fame we were told they do but don’t really like the notoriety. Some of the girls fear the fame will go to their heads and distract them from their job of keeping the streets of Pyongyang safe.

I get that you are excited to be in a country that everyone is talking about but cool off labeling these women your traffic girls.
If you really cared about the people of DPRK, you wouldn’t be stupid enough to label where they work or where they can be found. I’m sure they wouldn’t appreciate having their security jeopardized by a tourist who wanted to show some pictures to his friends.

I have been in and out of the DPRK for three yeas, during times when people have, and not talked about the place. If you think posting a few pics of traffic girls is putting them in danger than you have no idea about the country – do you believe they are going to be dragged off to a prison camp because they are in an authorized tourist photo?
People have told me that crap before, it’s nothing like the reality of the place.
